Federation President Malla’s Photo Included in ‘Distinguished Women of Nepal’
At the Nepal Art Council in Babarmahal, the second edition of the photo exhibition titled “Distinguished Women of Nepal” has begun, where photographs of Omdevi Malla—pioneering leader of the cooperative movement and Chairperson of the National Cooperative Federation—are also being displayed.
Omdevi Malla is a historic name in Nepal’s cooperative movement. She is not only the first woman Chairperson of the National Cooperative Federation of Nepal but also the very first woman cooperative leader from Asia to be elected to the Global Board of the International Cooperative Alliance(ICA). From Nepal, she is the first cooperative leader to reach this level. Representing the cooperative sector with great strength, Malla has significantly contributed to establishing Nepal’s identity in the international cooperative movement as well. For this reason, her portrait has been included in the exhibition of distinguished women.
Jointly organized by the Cultural Museum Nepal and the Nepal Olympic Museum, the exhibition held from August 18 to 21 (Bhadra 2–5). It featured more than 300 rare and historical photographs of distinguished Nepali women from history to the present day. According to the organizers, the exhibition covered contributions of women in diverse fields such as history, literature, art, culture, science, management, and adventurous journeys.
