NCF - ILO partnership for the implementation of ILO GET AHEAD
NCF has closely been working with the specialized organizations of the United Nation. United Nations Development Program, International Labour Organization, Food & Agriculture Organization are the organization in which NCF has made partnership in different thematic areas. In the partnership of ILO SGSCs project, National Cooperative Federation had implemented theprogram entitled“Strengthen collective voices of women and marginal micro entrepreneurs associated with cooperatives through capacity enhancement on Gender and Entrepreneurship". The sole objective of the project was to strengthen the capacity of cooperative network and its unions on developing the resource person on GET Ahead Training and its member cooperators especially majority of women with small and micro enterprises on the gender and business for their business development and sustainable livelihood. The activities were implemented from 25th May to September12th 2022 as per the work plan with the financial and technical support from ILO Nepal Office. The program implementation strategies was to develop the trained human resources among the cooperative networks i.e. federation and union as a national trainer on ILO’s standard GET Ahead Training program based on its standard manual.
The major achievement of such program can be mentioned that the Nepalese cooperative network was benefited from such unique kind of practical base entrepreneurial development training which can be replicated to other thousands of cooperatives even beyond the Kathmandu valley. This training mainly taught to be entrepreneurs focusing on gender for their economic advancement. Participants also shown their higher level of enthusiasm on the learning and adoption of business techniques and tried to find out the solutions on their specific gender barrier on businesses through the means of homework and coaching sessions as well.
The direct beneficiaries of the TOE program were 196 female including 1 male participants of the primary cooperatives. The ToEs were organize by NCF in coordination with 7 affiliates unions as well as national cooperative bank within Kathmandu Valley. Those intermediate partners were Nepal Federation of Savings &Credit Central Cooperative Unions, National Cooperative Bank Limited (NCBL) Lalitpur, Nepal Agriculture Cooperative Central Federation, Nepal Multipurpose Central Cooperative Union, and District Cooperative Union (DCU) Kathmandu District Savings & Credit Cooperative Union Bhaktapur&District Savings & Credit Cooperative Union Lalitpur.
The TOT on GETAHEAD and the ToE have sprinkled a clear cut concept of the importance of entrepreneurial activities to be conducted in cooperatives to mobilize their deposits in the productive and income generating activities. The ToE gave us an opportunity to find out the level of interest of participating cooperatives on entrepreneurship development activities. After completing the 14 ToEs from 7 member Cooperative Unions and National Cooperative Bank in different 14 cluster, it is known that there is the heavy thrust of conducting the entrepreneurship development activities and trainings as well through cooperatives. In such scenario, NCF has also been encouraging the member cooperatives for replicating the training in the perspective areas regardless of male or female with credit plus support to the potential entrepreneur members.
